Permanent Positions:
Director for the Quaker United Nations Office in Geneva
To take up the post from June 2011, on the retirement of David Atwood
QUNO staff facilitate dialogue among UN stakeholders, help raise issues on the international agenda, offer expert input and represent Friends’ concerns. The Geneva office focuses on human rights & refugees, global economics and disarmament & peace. This role provides an opportunity to build on the credibility QUNO has gained through over 50 years of quiet diplomacy and detailed policy work.
The Director’s role encompasses three main functions:
- Responsibility for the strategic direction and effective functioning of QUNO Geneva, including fundraising. Coordinating work with QUNO New York.
- Representation of QUNO with the UN, partners, funders and Quakers worldwide.
- Direct programme responsibility and contributing to all the programmes.
We are looking for a Quaker with strong strategic and analytical skills, substantial leadership and management experience, an understanding of the UN and considerable knowledge in one or more subject areas which QUNO will wish to address on behalf of Friends worldwide.
Salary: About Swiss Francs 140,000 (basic/bruto salary)

Assistant positions (PAs). These are aimed at young people who are interested

international affairs and the United Nations, and who have a
commitment to Friends (Quaker) principles of peace, nonviolence and equality.

Voluntary Opportunities:
Due to limited space and staff time at both QUNO offices, we cannot take
up any of the kind offers we get for voluntary work.
In the United States however, our parent body, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), does provide
opportunities for voluntary and youth work.
